Hair care through Patna’s seasons

Patna gives your hair a workout every year. Sticky humidity in the monsoon, dust on the roads and dry winter air all wear it down. Here is how to adjust your routine as the seasons change.

Monsoon: fighting frizz and a sticky scalp

When the air is full of moisture, the outer layer of each hair strand lifts and absorbs it. The result is frizz, limp roots and a scalp that feels oily by the afternoon.

  • Wash more often, gently. Use a mild shampoo two to three times a week so sweat and oil don’t build up, and focus it on the scalp.
  • Condition only the lengths. Keep conditioner away from the roots so your hair doesn’t fall flat.
  • Dry your scalp properly. Tying up damp hair is one of the most common causes of itchiness and odour in the rainy season.
  • Use a light serum. A few drops on the ends seals the cuticle against humidity.

Dust and pollution: the everyday build-up

If you ride a two-wheeler or spend time outdoors, your hair collects dust, smoke and sweat every day. Over time it starts to look dull and feel rough.

  • Cover your hair with a scarf or helmet lining on longer rides.
  • Rinse with plain water on days you don’t shampoo.
  • A clarifying wash or a hair spa every few weeks helps lift build-up that regular shampoo leaves behind.
Healthy hair starts at the scalp. Look after the roots and the lengths will follow.

Winter: dryness, flakes and static

As the air turns cool and dry, hair loses moisture faster. Hot showers make it worse. Many people notice flakes, static and brittle ends at this time of year.

  • Switch to lukewarm water. Very hot water strips natural oils from the scalp.
  • Oil before you wash. A light pre-wash oil massage nourishes the scalp. Don’t leave heavy oil on overnight if you get dandruff.
  • Add a weekly mask. A deep-conditioning mask restores softness and shine.
  • Turn the heat down. Use a heat protectant and lower settings on dryers and straighteners.

When to see a professional

Home care goes a long way, but some things are easier in the salon. Book in if your hair feels persistently rough or tangled, if you want to manage frizz for longer with a smoothening or keratin treatment, or if your ends need a trim. We usually suggest one every six to ten weeks.

At The Grace, every hair service starts with a quick look at your scalp and lengths, so we can suggest what your hair needs this season.
